What to know about the R22 (HCFC-22) Phase Out
R22 refrigerant will become illegal to manufacture or import in the United States effective January 22, 2020.
What does this mean for Medford Oregon home owners?
If you’re a Medford home owner with an air conditioning system or heat pump system you will be facing a difficult decision due to the new EPA R22 (HCFC-22) refrigerant phase-out. Don’t worry, Titan can help! Let’s look at what’s next for you. Your options are to replace your entire air conditioning or heat pump system or continue to pursue increasingly costly and hard-to-find R22 refrigerant or an alternative refrigerant when it’s time for a repair requiring so. Refrigerants used in air conditioning repair, heat pump repair and maintenance are changing, and the most common and least expensive refrigerants will soon be phased out. On January 1st 2020 only existing R22 stock produced before 01/01/2020 or salvage or reclaimed R22 will be available.
What are your options?
If your system uses R22 and is working properly you can continue to operate your system as you have been. If your air conditioning system needs R22 you can purchase costly reclaimed or old stock R22 and possibly keep your old system going. You could possibly replace your R22 with an alternative also. The bottom line is refilling or using an alternative refrigerant may not be the best investment for your home.
